21, 2001 Gamma Theta Upsilon chapter established at Arkansas State University A chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the internationally recognized honor society for geography, has been established at Arkansas State University, according to Dr. Jason Combs, group sponsor and assistant professor of geography. Eight ASU students were initiated into the honor society recently. The students and their majors are Kristina Baker of West Memphis, wildlife ecology and management; Robert Blackwell Jr. of Forrest City, middle-level education; Kelly Duckworth of Walnut Ridge, biological sciences; Erika Jones of Trumann, business; Shay Nanke of Paragould, radio-television; Bridgette Nathan of West Memphis, management information systems; Wade Rawlins of Jonesboro, psychology; Elizabeth White of Paragould, geography; and Josh Drummond of West Plains, Mo., exercise science. Gamma Theta Upsilon was founded in 1928 at Illinois State University, and became a member of the Association of College Honor Societies in 1976. Dr. Linda Pritchard, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. George Lord, chair of the Department of Criminology, Sociology, Social Work and Geography, have encouraged students to use GTU as an outlet for undergraduate research projects, according to Combs. # # # |
