ASU Financial Aid to offer
‘New Aid Officers’ Workshop

The Arkansas State University Office of Financial Aid will host their third "New Aid Officers" Workshop Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 19 and 20, in the Chickasaw Building on the Jonesboro campus.

All colleges and universities in Arkansas were extended an invitation to send new personnel to be trained at ASU Jonesboro.

"Arkansas colleges and universities hire many new financial aid staff members every year, and there is no other organized training in Arkansas besides what ASU began offering in May of 2000," Gregory Thornburg, associate dean of student affairs and director of financial aid and scholarships, said.

"We are pleased to offer this training also to admissions counselors and other higher education professionals who work with students on a regular basis throughout the process of enrolling in college. We hope our efforts to train staff make a difference in helping students obtain the necessary finances to fund a college education."

Thornburg coordinates the two-day workshop. He along with other ASU staff members, and staff from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the Student Loan Guarantee Foundation of Arkansas will present training sessions.

Training materials and meals at the workshop are being sponsored by US Bank, Simmons First Bank, Bank of America and the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA).
