16, 2002 Capitol Steps will bring satire to Fowler Center Saturday, Feb. 2 The Capitol Steps is the next group to perform in the Fowler Center Series at Arkansas State University. The five-member comedy act will perform Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, located at 201 Olympic Drive. Capitol Steps began in December 1981 when three staffers for Sen. Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. The trio dug into headlines and created song parodies and skits, which soon became very popular. The group has performed more than 4,500 performances in 48 states since it was initiated, and recorded 20 albums. The group includes a total of 22 cast members, using only five for each show. "The group is a troupe of Congressional staffers turned comedians who travel the country satirizing the very people and places that once employed them," according to a spokesperson for the group. "The first idea was to stage a nativity play (at the first Christmas party), but in the whole Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin!" The group has been featured on the "Today Show," "20/20," "Entertainment Tonight," "Nightline," and National Public Radio. Tickets prices for the event are $28 and $24 for adults, and $22 and $18 for students. The New Century Saxophone Quartet will provide the next performance in the series, on Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Central Box Office, located at the red entrance of the Convocation Center.
