State University to host USA Rugby Elite 8 Division II National Championships Eight of the nation’s top rugby teams will converge at Arkansas State University April 20 and 21 for the quarter finals and semi-finals of the USA Rugby Division II National Championship. The top two teams who outplay other teams in the competition will move on to the Division II National Championship set for May 6, in Virginia Beach, Va. ASU Coach Curt Huckaby and former ASU Rugby standout Yves Pichavant are serving as host coordinators for the event. USA Rugby and the Holiday Inn are co-sponsoring the championship. The eight competing teams have already won the top title in their region. Teams set to compete include second-seeded Arkansas State University, University of Northern Iowa , Middlebury College, Salisbury University, Sam Houston State University, Stanford University and the University of Southern Florida. The eighth team will be decided in a tie-breaking game this weekend. Games will be played on the intramural fields, located on Aggie Road, and are slated for 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. Conciliation games are slated for 11:30 a.m. and semi-final competition is set for 1 p.m. Sunday. "After volunteering to host the competition here, USA Rugby agreed since our team has done very well in competition lately," Pichavant said. " We’re very organized, especially with the help of Coach Huckaby. This will be a good opportunity for other schools to see what sort of program we’ve got at ASU." Pichavant, an All-American and three-time All-South athlete, said three ASU student groups, the Sports Management Club, the Athletic Training Club and the Women’s Rugby Club, will be helping at the event.
