9, 2001 Disability Services Week will feature Rehabilitation Counseling Symposium One of the major activities during Disability Awareness Week at Arkansas State University will be the Rehabilitation Counseling Symposium on Thursday, March 15. Disability Awareness Week activities start Monday, March 12, and continue through Thursday, March 15, according to Dr. Jenifer Rice-Mason, director of disability services at ASU. This year’s theme is "Celebrating disAbility: Creativity, Diversity and Spirit." The symposium will feature concurrent sessions beginning at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. and 1 and 2:15 p.m. Burton D. Pusch will be the guest speaker at a luncheon in the Reng Center Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The concurrent sessions will feature such topics as survivors of childhood cancer, diagnosis and management of seizures, the virtual office, HIV/AIDS, ethical dilemmas and Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility guidelines. A faculty member at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Pusch is responsible for two state and federal programs: the Arkansas Secondary Conditions Project and the Infusion project. Disability Awareness programs will provide educational and professional development training for students, faculty, staff, community and regional business and professional personnel.
