Convocation
of Scholars events continue at ASU The annual Convocation of Scholars activities at Arkansas State University will peak this week with a series of honors and awards ceremonies. "Honoring Excellence" is the 2002 Convocation theme. Major events will include the Student Honors Awards Ceremony, where the Wilson Award and most outstanding graduates of the university will be announced, and the Faculty Honors Convocation, where the faculty achievement awards will be presented and retiring faculty will be recognized. Also on Monday, the fifth annual Undergraduate Scholars Day will be held in the Reng Center Osage Room from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. This one-day student conference demonstrates the exceptional scholarship and talent of ASU’s students, according to Dr. Wayne Narey, assistant director of the Honors Program. The presentations are open to the public. The Student Honors Awards Ceremony begins at 4 p.m. in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center. The public is welcome. The Faculty Convocation begins at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Ballroom of the Reng Center, preceded by a reception in honor of the retirees at 1 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge adjacent to the Ballroom. The convocation ceremony and reception are both open to the public. The various college-level honors banquets or ceremonies are scheduled as follows: Business, and Nursing and Health Professions, Monday evening; Arts and Sciences, Tuesday evening; Communications, Wednesday evening; Engineering, Thursday afternoon; Agriculture, Thursday evening; and Fine Arts, Friday at noon. Departmental awards also will be presented at events conducted by the Physical Education Majors Club and the Department of Music.
