7, 2001 College of Communications students find success in research Eight students in the College of Communications at Arkansas State University have been recognized for their hard work and research in the recently established Communication Research course. The undergraduate students, who participated in the course taught by Dr. Mary Jackson Pitts during the spring and fall semesters of 2000, have been selected to present their work at the Undergraduate Honors Conference in April. The event is held in conjunction with the Southern States Communication Association’s spring convention. Students selected to present their work at the convention and their research topic include Kyle Barnhill of Batesville, digital media; Teri Taylor also of Batesville, violence in children’s cartoons; Dee Murray of Forrest City, National Football League commentary; Jonathan Hufstedler of Lake City, copyright laws and Napster; Kelly Walker of Mountain Home, women versus men film directors; Patrick Dailey of Marked Tree, late night talk shows setting the public agenda; Holly Golightly of Norfork, disclaimers in children’s advertising; and Mike Holifield of Paragould, Internet versus traditional media. The papers were blind reviewed by faculty at institutions across the United States, and the students’ work was individually reviewed and recognized for the quality of the research. SSCA has a membership of more than 600 faculty from all over the United States. |
