Department of Music to present
Concert Choir, University Singers


The Department of Music at Arkansas State University will present the university choirs in concert Tuesday, Nov. 6, 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, located at 201 Olympic Drive.

The performing groups, which include the Concert Choir, University Singers - Male Chorus and the University Singers - Female Chorus, will be under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, department chair, and Dr. Carmen Scialla.

The concert will include a variety of choral offerings, such as music of the English, Latin, German and Russian churches, spirituals, and settings of two Campion poems.

Concert selections include "Evening Song to God" by F. J. Hayden; "Choral Concerto" by Sergei Rachmaninoff; "Kyrie Eleison" by Milton Dietrich; "Sing Joyfully Unto God" by William Byrd; "Two Campion Poems" by Robert H. Young; "Don’t be Weary Traveler" and "In Dat Great Gittin’ Up Morning" arranged by Jester Hairston. The Concert Choir will be accompanied by Ellen Philpot, graduate organ performance major.

Concert Choir personnel includes Lisa Blakely of Fort Smith; Caycee Hennan of Highland; Cheyenne Nelson of Jonesboro; Cassie Black of Searcy; April Gordon of West Helena, soprano I; Lisa Gipson of Jonesboro; Catie Holiman of Gideon, Mo.; Etah Durham of Steele, Mo.; Amy Grow of Azores, Portugal, soprano II; Marc Sexton, Jerry Tesch, both of Jonesboro; Matthew Cureton of Arbyrd, Mo., tenor I; Whitney McCoy of Jonesboro; Chris France of Little Rock; Andrew Kjorlaug of Paragould; Corey Emerson of Poplar Bluff, Mo., tenor II; Audra House, Rachel Jaramillo, both of Jonesboro; Oksana Rissoukhina of Moscow, Russia, alto I; Lauren Hawkins of Jonesboro; Hanna Harris of Little Rock; Crystal Richards of Osceola; Jenny Pham of Maple Grove, Minn., alto II; Keith Westbrook of Benton; Alvin Coleman Jr. of Forrest City; Edmond Hampton of Fort Smith; Jeremy Blackwood of Harrisburg; Daniel Harrelson of Warren; baritone; John Hays, Jonathan Snipes, both of Jonesboro; Randy Anix of Pocahontas; Justin Low of Highland; and Jared Rogers of Tulsa, Okla.; bass.

The University Singers, divided into the Male and Female Choruses, will be conducted Scialla, assistant professor of piano and choirs.

The Male Chorus program will include "America, Of Thee I Sing" arranged by George Stid; "The King of Love My Shepherd Is" arranged by Mack Wilberg; "Der Boten Der Lieb" by Brahms and Hall; "A Time For Parting" by Andre Previn; "Drive the River Down" by Brad Prinz; "The Chariot Spiritual" by Donald Moore; and "Snow of Winter Cold" by Scialla.

The Female Chorus will perform "The Violet" by Mark Patterson; "Yo Le Canto Todo El Dia" by David L. Brunner; "Brush Strokes" by William Martin; "Good News" arranged by John Helig; and "For the Beauty of the Earth" by John Rutter. Soloists in the program include Andrew Kjorlag, Sylenia Lewis, Tesch, Nelson and Gordon.

Personnel for the Male Chorus includes Stephen Leslie of Booneville; Jon James of Conway; Brandon Bass, Charles Winfield, both of Jonesboro; Chris France of Little Rock; Andrew Kjorlaus of Paragould; Christopher J. Mitchell of Trumann; Rob White of West Memphis; David Darnell, James Darnell, both of West Helena; Westbrook; Blackwood; Coleman Jr.; Hampton; and Cureton.

Female Chorus members include Niki King of Crossett; Masami Shiono of Forrest City; Jenny Evert, Lucy Angleton, both of Hardy; Karen Debaun of Hickory Ridge; Niki Haley, Lesley Hobbs, Sylenia Lewis, Jordan Summers and Amber Wooldridge, all of Jonesboro; Hayley Ralston of Pine Bluff; Keely Pierce of Pocahontas; Angela Welch of Smackover; LeAnn Adkinson of East Prairie, Mo.; Mandi Fair of London, England; Hennan; Grow; Nelson; Gordon; Richards; Durham; Hawkins; and Rissoukhina.
