23, 2001 Childhood Services will host Statewide Family Child Care Conference The Statewide Family Child Care Conference will be held on the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro Friday and Saturday, June 1-2. The two-day event at the Reng Center is sponsored by Crowley’s Ridge Development Council Family Day Care Food Program; ASU Childhood Services; and the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education. Hours are 6-9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Presenters at the conference include teacher and author Lynn A. Manfredi/Petitt, long-time educator Betsy Gore, and musician Anthony Richardson. Manfredi/Petitt has 30 years experience teaching and serving as a family child care provider. She has been an early childhood and education consultant since 1981 and is the author of "Circles of Love: Relationships Between Parents, Providers and Children in Child Care." She currently teaches creative arts in a variety of early childhood settings. Gore is an administrator for special nutrition programs at the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education. She has served as director of the Newport School District’s food service program and director of nutritional services at the White River Medical Center. Composer Richardson, the "Music Man," has developed the innovative music program "Keeping a Steady Beat," and has presented at the local, state and national level. His unique program is designed to bring rhythm, creative learning and movement together for the young child. Small group sessions will be held to provide 10 hours of training for participants. Session topics include positive guidance; licensing regulations, quality playgrounds; music and movement; marketing your business; food program training; learning, children and play; multi-cultural activities; and fun activities for outdoors. Registration for the conference is $25, and includes lodging Friday evening, breakfast and a luncheon Saturday afternoon. All sessions are appropriate for child care providers. Exhibitors will have resources and items for sale at the conference. Participants will stay at University Hall on the Jonesboro campus.
