magazine's D.C. chief to open Lecture~Concert Series The Washington bureau chief for Fortune magazine will examine the issues surrounding corporate scandals in a speech to open the Lecture~Concert Series at Arkansas State University. Jeffrey Birnbaum will speak Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center. This is a joint presentation with the College of Business, supported by the Stella Horton Alsey and Howard Milton Alsey Lecture Endowment. Birnbaum, who also serves as a political analyst for Fox News, has titled his address, "Enron-to-WorldCom: Politics and Ethics Unusual," according to Dr. F. David Levenbach, chair of the Lecture~Concert Committee. All events in the Lecture~Concert Series are open to the public. Admission is free. Birnbaum has specialized in covering the White House, lobbying and national politics. He also organizes and writes the magazine’s annual Power 25 survey on the influence of special interest groups. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, he reported for the Wall Street Journal for 16 years, including two years as the paper’s White House correspondent. Before joining Fortune in 1997, Birnbaum was a senior political correspondent for its sister magazine, Time. He has written four acclaimed books on the politics of tax reform, lobbyists, political fund raising, and the lives of White House aides in the Clinton administration.
