24, 2001 Fowler Center will host Ballet Folklorico Friday, Nov. 9 Downloadable Image Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" will present a visual fiesta of old Mexico at Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center Friday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The group features traditional dances from their home state, Vera Cruz, birthplace of the famous "La Bamba." "Quetzalli" has toured across the entire globe, including several tours of the United States, and has proven to be one of Mexico’s most popular exports since it was founded in 1985, according to a spokesperson. The group now includes 45 dancers and eight musicians who perform the regional dances of Mexico. Musicians perform on authentic stringed instruments, which help punctuate the meticulous movement, radiant clothing and precise rhythm established by the dancers. In a Kansas City Star review, writer Betsy Kline said, "Things were clicking at the Performing Arts Center when the vibrant Ballet Folklorico de Verecruz stormed the stage in a heady rush of tapping heels, dazzling costumes and insistent rhythms." Ticket prices for the event are $18 and $13 for adults; and $14 and $10 for students. The next performing group in the Fowler Center series is Epic Brass on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. For more information on upcoming events contact Fowler Center, 870-910-8115, or fowlercenter@astate.edu. # # # |
