August issue of Arkansas Review
features quilts from ASU Museum

Quilts from the Arkansas State University Museum provide the focus for the August issue of "Arkansas Review," published by ASU’s Department of English and Philosophy.

Art editor Kim Vickrey has chosen images from the museum’s permanent collection for a full-color art spread and for the magazine’s cover.

The August issue also includes a range of other material focusing on the seven-state Mississippi River Delta.

Academic articles deal with encounters between the civil rights movement and legal authority in Claiborne County, Mississippi, and with the educational facilities for Japanese internees at Rohwer, Arkansas, during World War II. The latter article is written by Jan Ziegler, an ASU graduate who is director of planning and assessment at Black River Technical College in Pocahontas.

Tom Williams, creative materials editor for the publication, has contributed an interview with Delta fiction writer Steve Yarbrough.

Short fiction, personal essays, poetry, and book reviews also appear in the August issue.

Members of the ASU community who have contributed book reviews are Guy Lancaster, Tom Williams, Michael B. Dougan, Brady M. Banta and Ruth A. Hawkins. Photographs by Shannon Kyle Beasley and Richard Allen Burns are also featured.

Other Arkansas writers whose work appear in the issue include Margaret Jones Bolsterli, Willard B. Gatewood, Becky McLaughlin, James Harmon Clinton, Marck L. Beggs, and S. Ray Granade.

"Arkansas Review" is published three times per year (April, August, and December). Subscriptions cost $20, and single issues are $7.50. Checks, made payable to "ASU Foundation" with "Arkansas Review" on the memo line, should be sent to Arkansas Review, PO Box 1890, Arkansas State University, State University, AR 72467.
