Brown Bag Lunch CLE Series to present ‘Handling appeals in Arkansas’ The Arkansas State University Office of Advancement will host "Handling Appeals in Arkansas" as part of the Brown Bag Lunch CLE Series Friday, July 19, at the Colonnade, 1530 Browns Lane Access Road, in Jonesboro. Registration and a luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the seminar following until 3:30 p.m. The seminar will include information on jury selection and voir dire techniques by expert Melissa McMath Hatfield of Little Rock; review of case law by attorney Kent Rubens of West Memphis; and discussion of model appellant’s brief by attorney D. Price Marshall of Jonesboro. Hatfield, a licensed psychological examiner and certified civil mediator, owns McMath Trial Consultants and Civil Mediation Services of Little Rock. She has extensive jury selection and trial consultation experience, including cases such as U.S.A. v. Susan McDougal/White Water I; Paula Jones v. William Jefferson Clinton; and the State of Arkansas v. David Hale. Rubens is a litigator whose practice focuses on civil, commercial and criminal defense cases. An experienced appellate attorney, he has served as a Special Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court. Marshall attend ASU, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Harvard Law School. Much of his practice involves appeals. This program has been approved by the Arkansas Continuing Education Board for 3.0 General CLE hours. Cost of the luncheon, seminar and printed course materials is $50.
