15 , 2001 Lecture~Concert Series to present Igor Begelman Clarinetist Igor Begelman will perform next in the Arkansas State University Lecture~Concert Series in Riceland Hall in the Fowler Center, located at 201 Olympic Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. The program features works by Weber, Poulenc, and Begelman’s arrangements of Gershwin’s "Preludes" and the popular gypsy-inspired "Zigeunerwiesen" of Pablo de Sarasate. Raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Igor Begelman came to the United States in 1989. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he remains the only recipient of the Leon Russianoff Memorial Scholarship, and his master’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music. Begelman was named the winner of the 2000 Avery Fisher Career Grant and has been awarded top prizes at a number of international competitions, including the first Carl Nielson International Clarinet Competition in Denmark. The musician has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Young Artists Concerts and has appeared in numerous festivals throughout the world at locations in Germany, Israel and Japan. In most recent engagements, Begelman was featured as a soloist with the Greenwich, New Haven Symphonies and Astral Chamber Orchestra. "Clarinetist Igor Begelman’s virtuosity and imagination on his instrument have been praised by critics as a ‘remarkable display of music making,’" according to a Lecture~Concert Series spokesperson. Begelman lives in New York, and is affiliated with Astral Artistic Services, a non-profit Philadelphia organization dedicated to guiding the careers of America’s most exceptional classical musicians. # # # |
