The editor-in-chief will be Melanie Jarrett of Jonesboro. A senior journalism major, Jarrett is participating in an internship this summer with America Online (AOL) in Washington, D.C. Other editors under her supervision are the news, opinions, photo, sports, online and campus editors. Grover Welch of Cynthiana, Ky., will be news editor. A junior journalism major, he was campus editor during the spring semester. Jonathan Stanley of Jonesboro will be opinions editor. Also a junior, Stanley was editorial cartoonist during the spring. Serina Wilkins of Paragould has been assigned as photo editor. Wilkins is a senior journalism major. Jerrica Hutchison of Little Rock will be sports editor this fall. Hutchison, a junior, was the news editor during the spring semester. Wesley Reynaud of Conway will be the online editor. A junior journalism major, he served as a photographer last semester. Legena McBride of Oxford will assume the position of campus editor in the fall, after being a senior reporter in the spring. McBride also is a junior journalism major. The selection of editor is made by the university’s Publications Board, which is comprised of four faculty members and four students. Two faculty members are appointed by the university president and two by the Faculty Senate. Two students are appointed by the Student Government Association and two by the chair of the Department of Journalism and Printing, Dr. Joel Gambill. After the board selects an editor, the new editor and the adviser for the Herald, Bonnie Thrasher, select the remainder of the staff. The Herald originated as The Aggie Herald on Nov. 18, 1921, at the First District State Agricultural School, which evolved into what we know today as Arkansas State University.
