Anne Wilson will present
public lecture in Recital Hall

Anne Wilson, a nationally recognized artist from Chicago, will present a public lecture on Monday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m., in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, located on Caraway Road, at Arkansas State University.

Her lecture is presented by the Department of Art's Visiting Artist Lecture Series.

The artist will discuss a history of her recent art practice, focusing on references and sources for the use of found cloth, hair, and issues of history and memory. She will also discuss her concurrent use of web site construction, sound installation, and collaborative processes in developing the themes within her work.

Wilson is a professor in the Department of Fiber and Material Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Grants in 1982 and 1988, and several Illinois Arts Council Individual Artist Grants.

Her work is represented by the Roy Boyd Gallery, Chicago, and Revolution, Detroit and New York. Her solo exhibition entitled "Anatomy of Wear" was presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, last fall.

Wilson’s experimentation with human hair began more than 10 years ago, when she decided to bring her work "closer to the human sphere, to qualities of intimacy, fragility, and the personal by drawing upon the cultural associations of domestic linens and needlework, and the visceral sensuality of hair."

In addition to her ongoing work in fiber, Wilson’s recent work and research explore sound and Internet communications, including the "hairinquiry: archived responses" web site.

Wilson received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and a master of fine arts degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, Calif.

The lecture is admission-free to the public. For more information contact the Department of Art at 870-972-3050.
