Tribe, Lab Jazz Band to perform
at Fowler Center, Oct. 18


The Arkansas State University Department of Music will present the Tribe and Lab Jazz Band in concert Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive.

The Tribe is under the direction of Ed Alexander, interim director of bands. Musical selections include "Schmooze" by Al Kiger; "Four Brothers" by Jimmy Giuffre; "Kanon" by Johann Pachelbel, arr. Craig Alberty; "Rhythm of the Masses" by Fran Mantooth; "Wishbones" by Robert Matchett; "Horsepower" by Fred Sturm; "I Remember Clifford" by Benny Golson, arr. Quincy Jones; and "Indian Lady" by Don Ellis.

Members of the Tribe include Laurie Kinder of Salem, David Robinson of Tuckerman, alto saxophone; Damian Sanchez of Miami, Fla., Jonathan Rohner of Bono, tenor saxophone; Shane Hill of Halls, Tenn., baritone; Peter Davis of Jonesboro, Joe Deaton of Keiser, Grant Garland of Heber Springs, Jimmy Gazaway of Paragould, and David Stone of Jonesboro, trumpet; Patrick Barger of Paragould, Landon Heidbreder of Poplar Bluff, Corey Spencer of Wynne, and Matt Strawbridge, trombone; Roby Johnson of Jonesboro, piano; Corey Emerson of Poplar Bluff, bass; Mike Duncan of Marion, Ben White of Jonesboro, drums; and Vic Swain of Paragould, guitar.

The Lab Jazz Band, under the direction of Dru Davison, will play the following tunes: "Reunion in Rio" by Peter Blair; "A Step From the Edge" by Frank Mantooth; "Lady Madonna" arranged by Moke Tomaro; "Brazil" arranged by Jerry Nowak.

The Lab band personnel include Eric Palmer of Bald Knob; Justin Dugger of Batesville; Preston Hines of Bono; Tim Miller of Corning; Sara Garland of Heber Springs; Josh Davis, Chris Swindle, Daryol Edwards, David Butler, Ben Runnels, all of Jonesboro; Duane Myers of Marked Tree; Beverly Boyles of Newport; Drew Breckinridge, Patrick Barger, both of Paragould; Allene Kirk of Ravenden; Laurie Kinder of Salem; and Ben Wainscott of Memphis, Tenn.
