March 28, 2001 New Music Ensemble to perform Wednesday, April 4 The Department of Music at Arkansas State University will present a New Music Ensemble concert on Wednesday, April 4, in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, located on Caraway Road. The concert will offer works composed since 1961. Featured during the program will be "Idyll for the Misbegotten," by American and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Crumb. Musicians for this piece include flutist Joe Bonner of Jonesboro, assistant professor of music; and percussionists Craig Collison of Jonesboro, assistant professor of music, and students Jonathan Murray of Bryant and Carl Roberts of Forrest City. Excerpts from "Musical Toys" by Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina will be performed by student pianist Oksana Rissoukhina of Russia. The remaining portion of the program will include works by Morton Feldman, Salvatore Sciarrino and Dr. Tim Christ of Jonesboro, faculty composer. Other performers include cellist Jonathan Kirkscey of Memphis, Tenn.; flutists Tina Glover of Jonesboro and Emily Heern of Jonesboro; pianists Matt Cureton of Arbyrd, Mo., and Kerri Turner of Jonesboro; violinists Rebecca Markowski and Audra Edgins of Leachville; clarinetists Lakisha Allen of Forrest City; and percussionist Tina Gragg of Brookland.
