Several new members to be inducted into
Legacy Society of Arkansas State University


Several new members were inducted into the Legacy Society of Arkansas State University during a special dinner and presentation Friday evening at the Jonesboro Country Club.

The Legacy Society is Arkansas State University’s recognition club for persons who include ASU in their estate plans.

Those inducted into the Legacy Society are alumni, faculty and friends "who share the vision of continuing to provide accessible, affordable high-quality education," according to Dr. Les Wyatt, president of the university.

These donors use various planned giving methods to provide charitable support, not only for the main campus in Jonesboro but throughout the ASU system.

The organization was initiated in 1997, with the first Legacy Society dinner in October of 1999. The event is sponsored by ASU and the Arkansas State University Foundation Inc.

"This special evening is an expression of appreciation and recognition for the valuable support donors provide through wills, charitable trusts, tangible personal property, corporate sponsorship and similar gifts," stated Steve Owens, vice president for university advancement.

Those inducted were: Fred D. Blackburn and the late Charles T. Blackburn (Charlene Blackburn Art Program Endowment, ASU-Mountain Home); John C. Bolland (The Bolland Composition Computer Center Endowment, ASU-Mountain Home); Curt and Charlotte Bornhoft Bradbury (Bradbury Gallery, Fowler Center, ASU-Jonesboro); Dolores F. and Thomas A. Bruce, and the late Dora Bruce and Floyd Bruce (Dora and Floyd Bruce Lobby, Dryer Hall, Bruce Family Room, Hurd Student Center, and the Dora Fee Bruce Scholarship Fund, ASU-Mountain Home).

Others include Phyllis and Bill Burleson (Tank Rea and Mary Alice Elam Lobby, First National Hall, ASU-Mountain Home); Anna Margaret Butler and the late R. W. Butler (The R. W. and Anna Margaret Butler Scholarship Endowment, ASU-Jonesboro); Darrell and Charlotte Pugh Cooper (The Grand Hall Endowment, Fowler Center, honoring the family of Geoffrey Pugh, ASU-Jonesboro); Allena Dryer family and the late J. D. Dryer (Dryer Hall Endowment, ASU-Mountain Home); Thomas D. and Jan Fowler (Thomas D. and Jan T. Fowler Charitable Remainder Trust, ASU-Mountain Home).

Also included are Jim and Jill Gaston (The Gaston Lecture Series Endowment, and The Gaston Lobby, ASU-Mountain Home); Sherland and Barbara Hamilton (Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center, Piggott); George and Phoebe Harp (George L. Harp Environmental Field Station, ASU-Jonesboro); Patrick F. Haynes (Planned Gift, ASU-Jonesboro); Verona D. Hurd (The Verona D. Hurd Trust, The Hurd Student Center and The Hurd Entrance Gate, ASU-Mountain Home).

Others included were the late Joseph Keller (The Joseph Keller Green, ASU-Mountain Home); Alice and Guy King (King Drive East, King Drive West, King Drive North and King Circle, ASU-Mountain Home); The late Don and Betty McMullin (McMullin Lecture Hall, Don L. McMullin and Elizabeth M. McMulliin Scholarship/Technology Endowment Fund, ASU-Mountain Home); Lela Mitchell (The Lela Mitchell Telecommunications Center, ASU-Mountain Home); the late Claudia Dunns Mitts (The Dunn Mitts Scholarship Endowment, ASU-Jonesboro); James and Sally Moore (McClain Hall Science laboratory and James D. and Sally Moore Recreational Trail, ASU-Mountain Home);

Also included are Evelyn Motyka (Technological Enrichment Fund, ASU-Mountain Home); Wilma Pattee (The Henry Hubbard Pattee and Wilma Harper Pattee Patio, The Henry Hubbardr Pattee and Wilma Harper Pattee Academic Enrichment Grant, ASU-Mountain Home); James H. Others included were Josee Schliemann (Schliemann Learning Center, ASU-Mountain Home); Nadia Price Bates Strid (Photographic Collection, ASU Museum, ASU-Jonesboro); John and Greta Troutt (Troutt Brothers Memorial Scholarship Endowment, ASU-Jonesboro); Carol C. Tyler (Joe Dan and Carol Tyler Nursing Scholarship Endowment, ASU-Mountain Home); Dr. Alfred and Thelma Weitkamp (Weitkamp Chemistry Laboratory, ASU-Mountain Home); Kathy Brittain White (First National Hall Computer Laboratory, ASU-Mountain Home; Cardinal Health Virtual Technology Internship Program, ASU-Jonesboro); John A. and Donna Woodside (Mable Symons Woodside Memorial Scholarship Endowment, ASU-Jonesboro); Julie Wright (Glenn O. and Nell Powell Wright Scholarship, ASU-Mountain Home).

Special Recognition was given to Kenneth Swan (Mary L. Swan Memorial Scholarship, ASU-Jonesboro); and the late Victor Hale "Bud" Kays (The Kays Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust, ASU-Jonesboro).

In addition, individuals and corporate sponsors who establish endowment support are eligible to be inducted as Legacy Partners. Legacy Partners who were recognized include Bank of Yellville (Bank of Yellville Endowed Concert Series, ASU-Mountain Home); Craighead County Extension Homemakers Council (Craighead County Extension Homemakers Council Scholarship Endowment, ASU-Jonesboro).

Other Legacy Partners included were First National Bank and Trust Company (First National Hall Endowment Trust, ASU-Mountain Home); Hugh McClain and McClain Enterprises, Inc. (McClain Hall Endowment, ASU-Mountain Home); Riceland Foods, Inc. (Riceland Hall, Fowler Center, ASU-Jonesboro); Simmons First Bank of Jonesboro (Donald W. Stone Memorial Scholarship Endowment, ASU-Jonesboro).

Dr. Deborah Turner, director of planned giving, encourages anyone who has created a planned gift to ASU to contact her at the university.
