‘Through a Child’s Eyes XV’
will open at ASU Museum

The Arkansas State University Museum will open "Through a Child’s Eyes XV" on Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. with a presentation of awards in the museum lobby. A reception will follow the presentation and the artists, their families, teachers and the public are invited to this celebration.

The ASU Museum has sponsored "Through a Child’s Eyes" annually since 1987. Schools both public and private within 60 miles of Jonesboro are invited to submit 10 works of art from children age four through grade 8. If not exhibited by a school, individuals may enter artwork. This year the exhibition contains 179 works of art entered by 20 schools in the region and 13 individuals.

Each participant in the exhibition is a winner because each school is limited to only 10 entries. Awards will be given to the 20 works of art that are chosen by a panel of three judges. Five each, first, second, third and honorable mention ribbons will be awarded. Of those works, the museum accession committee will select five pieces for $50 purchase awards if the young artists made them eligible for purchase. The Arkansas State University College of Education has generously contributed money for Purchase Awards.

Participating schools include Albright Elementary and Castleberry Elementary of Newport; Annie Camp Junior High, Charlott Jones School of Art, Douglas MacArthur Junior High, Hillcrest Elementary, Nettleton Junior High, Ridgefield Christian Elementary and Middle Schools, South Elementary and Valley View School, all of Jonesboro; Brookland Elementary and Intermediate Schools, Brookland; Marion Intermediate School, Marion; Osceola Middle School, Osceola; Piggott Headstart, Piggott; M.D. Williams Intermediate School, Pocahontas; Richland Elementary and Weaver Elementary, of West Memphis; Swifton School District, Swifton; Wynne Junior High, Wynne; Youth Art at East Arkansas Community College, Forrest City.

"Through a Child’s Eyes XV" will be on exhibition in the museum lobby through April 8. There is no admission fee to the museum. ASU Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information call 870-972-2074.
