December
11, 2001 December issue of Arkansas Review features photographic essay The Department of English and Philosophy at Arkansas State University has published the December issue of "Arkansas Review: A Journal of Delta Studies." Issued three times per year, the interdisciplinary journal focuses on the seven-state Mississippi River Delta. The December issue highlights a photographic essay by Bruce West, professor of art at Southwest Missouri State University. West's essay includes images of the Rev. H. D. Dennis of Vicksburg, Miss., who refers to himself as "Spiritual Adviser to the World." Other articles in the issue treat a bayou near Monroe, La., and critique a short story by Eudora Welty. An interview with Delta-born poet David Kirby also appears in the issue. Two short stories -- by Mary Elsie Robertson and by Scott Ely -- appear in the issue as does poetry by Jeffrey Franklin and Walt McDonald, current Texas Poet Laureate. ASU faculty and staff represented in the issue include book reviewers Norman Stafford, Guy Lancaster, Frances Malpezzi, Mary L. Donaghy, and David E. England. Lancaster also has written an article on "Delta websites" for the issue's "Delta Sources and Resources" section. Photographs by Lancaster, Robert Franklin, and Richard Allen Burns also appear in the December issue. The cost of the December issue of "Arkansas Review" is $7.50. A year's subscription (three issues) is $20. Checks should be made payable to "ASU Foundation" with "Arkansas Review" on the memo line and mailed to Arkansas Review, P.O. Box 1890, Arkansas State University, State University, AR 72467. For further information, call 972-3043 or e-mail delta@astate.edu. # # # |
