Sept. 5, 2006 -- The Department of Theatre at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro has released the schedule for the 2006-07 theatre season.

The season will open in late September with “The God of Hell” by Sam Shepard. The story is a fascinating dark comedy about subversive government plutonium testing described by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Sam Shepard. Performance dates for “The God of Hell” are Sept. 29, 30, Oct. 3 and 4.

The next show of the season is “The Diviners” by James Leonard Jr. “The Diviners” is a play about love, friendship, family and community, at a time in our nation's history when such things were hard to find, and even harder to hold. While the rest of the country lays divided and demoralized by The Great Depression, the people of this story manage to weather the storm. Performances dates for “The Diviners” are Nov. 10, 11, 14 and 15.

Coming up in 2007 is “The House of Yes” by Wendy MacLeod. The life of a dysfunctional Virginia family is paralleled to that of the Kennedy family in this outrageous, edgy comedy. Celebrating Thanksgiving brings on a whole new meaning when the Jackie-O obsessed daughter and her twin brother reveal their family secret. Performance dates for “The House of Yes” are Feb. 9, 10, 13 and 14, 2007.

The ASU Theatre welcomes the 2007 Arkansas Repertory Theatre touring production of “Fences” by August Wilson. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama and four Tony Awards, including best play, “Fences” tells the story of Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro Baseball Leagues.

As an embittered and resentful garbage collector, Maxson is coming to terms with his own lost dreams while struggling to hold onto his pride and keep his family together. Performance dates for “Fences” are Feb. 20, 21, 23 and 24, 2007.

The final show of the 2006-07 season is “Twelfth Night” by William Shakespeare. This is a fantastic Shakespearean twist on the old comic plot line of the madcap events surrounding the mixed-up and mistaken identities of twins, only this time he even mixes up the gender. It is often considered to be the greatest of Shakespeare’s romantic comedies. Performance dates for “Twelfth Night” are April 6, 7, 10 and 11, 2007.
