Spring Commencement will be held May 10, with two ceremonies scheduled

May 2, 2008 -- Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will hold spring commencement in the Convocation Center on Saturday, May 10, with one ceremony at 10 a.m. and another at 2 p.m.

The morning ceremony will include the Colleges of Agriculture, Business, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Sciences and Mathematics. Major General Elder Granger, M.D.,  a 1976 alumnus of ASU, will address the graduates at both the 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ceremonies.

The afternoon commencement will include the Colleges of Communications, Education, Fine Arts, Nursing and Health Professions, University College, and Regional Programs. Rachel Smith of Jonesboro, this year’s R. E. Lee Wilson Award winner, will be the student speaker for the morning commencement ceremony. Morgan Pippin, Student Government Association president, will be the student speaker for the afternoon commencement ceremony.

Dr. Robert L. Potts, chancellor of ASU-Jonesboro, will present the various diplomas. The Office of the Registrar has listed 1, 035 students as candidates for degrees at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

A brief reception for all graduates, their guests, and faculty and staff will be held on the north mezzanine following each of the commencement ceremonies. Everyone is invited to attend.
