Lecture-Concert Series hosts multifaceted performer Charles Holt on Feb. 19

Feb. 10, 2009 -- Musician, storyteller, and multifaceted entertainer Charles Holt is the featured performer in the next event of Arkansas State University’s Lecture-Concert Series. Charles Holt will present “A Journey through an American Quilt of Songs: ‘Sole’ Music Featuring Charles Holt” on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall, Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro. This event, like all events in the Lecture-Concert Series, is free and open to the public. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Office of Diversity at ASU.

Holt is known for his storytelling and Broadway performances; he has appeared in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Smokey Joe’s Café,” “The Lion King,” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”  He has also had guest appearances on the TV shows “Law and Order: Criminal Intent” and “All My Children.” Holt grew up in Nashville, Tenn., and is an alumnus of Rhodes College, Memphis, Tenn.

Holt’s debut CD, “I Am,” was released in January 2007. He will release his autobiography, “The Voice That Matters,” later this year. For the last two years, Holt has traveled and performed his one-man play “Black Boy,” which is based on the life of author Richard Wright. This fall, Holt will begin performing his one-man play “The Smoke King,” which is based on the life of author W. E. B. Du Bois. He will soon begin touring regional theatres with his most recent work, “America, The Black, The Beautiful,” a one-man play with original music and multimedia.
