Department of Music's Opera Production class to present 'Pajama Opera' Nov. 3

Oct. 22, 2008 -- Arkansas State University’s Opera Production class will present “Pajama Opera” on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, 114 South Caraway Road, Jonesboro.

The Opera Production class is directed by Dr. Marika Kyriakos. Assisting her will be Rebecca Craft, assistant director, and Pat Register, costume assistant, as well as faculty members from the Department of Theatre: Brent Foland, costuming, and Stacy Alley, choreography. Joy Sanford will accompany the singers on the piano, and Dr. Ed Owen will act as the night’s host.  The cast will consist of Rebecca Craft, Becky Morrison, Willlie Sullivan, and special guest Brandon Stroud of Jonesboro, Crystal Haralson of Paragould, Savanna Traylor of Mountain Home, Renee Smith of Houston, Texas, and Roberta Tupper of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Scenes from various operas will be performed. The evening will feature “Le Nozze di Figaro” by Mozart; “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor” by Nicolai; “A Game of Chance” by Barab; “Street Scene” by Weill; “Die Zauberflöte” by Mozart; “The Mikado” by Gilbert and Sullivan; “Roméo et Juliette” by Gounod; and “Hänsel und Gretel” by Humperdinck.

To reinforce the “Pajama Opera” theme,  the entire cast will be wearing pajamas for the performances. They invite the audience to come dressed in pajamas as well. Prizes will be given for the most creative evening attire.
