Discover Diversity 'Senior Edition'
set for Oct. 14 and 15 on campus

Oct. 10, 2005--Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will host Discover Diversity “Senior Edition,” a leadership conference on campus this weekend, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 15, offering high school seniors a look at scholarship opportunities, college preparation and career choices along with academic fairs, speakers and fun activities.

Discover Diversity is open to African-American, Hispanic American, Native American and Asian American students from throughout the Mississippi Delta region who meet certain GPA requirements and participate in leadership activities in their school or community.

This weekend, approximately 70 high school seniors from throughout central and northeast Arkansas as well as western Tennessee have been selected to attend the leadership conference.

“This is a dynamic weekend for students and will expose these students college life, career planning, and so much more. They will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with faculty, staff, alumni and students,” said Candice Seward, assistant director of admissions and coordinator of minority recruitment.

“One of the highlights of Discover Diversity is on Friday evening during the awards and recognition dinner as we listen to a presentation from guest speaker, Keia Johnson, a 2003 alumna, of Memphis, Tenn.,” said Steward.

Johnson majored in radio/television broadcasting at ASU and was named to Who’s Who Among American College Students in 2004. She is the former Miss ASU, Miss Essence and Miss Congeniality for the State of Arkansas. Since her graduation from ASU, Johnson has produced numerous television and radio shows. She is currently an account executive for the Citadel Memphis Radio Group in Memphis.

Discover Diversity begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at the new Student Union with a welcoming session featuring the sounds of the United Voices Gospel Choir and a luncheon. The afternoon activities will focus on campus and college life as well as leadership activities.

Saturday’s activities will include a breakfast, workshops and sessions, followed by a luncheon and tours.
