CMVAS lecture will feature Dr. Tom Green, director, Arkansas Archeological Survey

Dec. 4, 2007 -
-
The Central Mississippi Valley Archeological Society will present a lecture by Dr. Tom Green, director, Arkansas Archaeological Survey, "Paleoindian or Paleoamerican?" on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m., ASU Museum, Room 182.

In the past decade, many biological anthropologists have been calling the few late Pleistocene/early Holocene skeletons in the Americas Paleoamericans instead of Paleoindians, implying that skeletons such as Kennewick Man and Buhl Woman may or may not be the biological ancestors of modern Native Americans. The lecture will explore the use of craniofacial morphology as a measure of biological affinity, as well as other methods.

Admission is free and open to the public. New anthropology books will be raffled off to fund Archeological Lab research, and opportunities for field work near Jonesboro's RidgePointe subdivision will be announced. For details, e-mail Dr. Julie Morrow.
