Monday, April 26 at Fowler Center

The Department of Music at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present the ASU Ringers in concert Monday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center Riceland Hall.

As ASU’s handbell choir, the Ringers are directed by Dr. M. Ellis Julien, professor of music. The choir will be ringing five octaves of Schulmerich handbells and four octaves of Malmark handchimes.

Established in 1985, the ASU Ringers is a small ensemble open to members of the student body as well as to members of the faculty and the community. Although most of the students are music majors, several other academic majors are also represented.

This spring, their tour has included concerts in Jonesboro, Cape Girardeau, Mo., and the greater St. Louis area.

The program is designed to compliment the Easter season and includes the following titles:  All Creatures of Our God and King arranged by Cynthia Dobrinski; Beautiful Savior arranged by Jody Van Kley; Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley arranged for bells and classical guitar by Bill Wieszczek; Lord speak to me, that I may speak arranged by William Ringham; Hyfrydol (Love Divine, all loves excelling) arranged by Timothy Shepard; Elegy by William Payn; Nocturne in C Minor by Michael Helman; Carillon by Dean Wagner; Laudation by Arnold Sherman; and The Great Gate of Kiev arranged by Martha Lynn Thompson for handbells, handchimes, brass quintet, and percussion.

Members of the choir include Justin Dugger of Batesville, guitar; Chris France of Little Rock; Dr. David Gilmore of Jonesboro, professor of biology; Tina Glover of Piggott; Carly Gorman of Little Rock; Candice Hill of Bryant; Roby Johnson of East Prairie, Mo.; Caroline Sampson, a graduate student of Huntsville, Ala.; Damien Sanchez of Miami, Fla.; Paula Shafer of Monticello; Tara Skinner of Daytona Beach, Fla.; Caroline Smith, graduate assistant conductor of Huntsville, Ala.; Staci Stewart of Prescott; Ashley Tidwell of Little Rock; and Keith Westbrook of Benton.
