The Arkansas State University-Jonesboro Department of Music will present a Faculty Recital Series performance featuring Joe Bonner on flute, Lauren Schack Clark on piano, and Dan Ross on oboe at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr.

Joe Bonner is an assistant professor of music at ASU and received his BA degree from the University of Houston and his MA from Stephen F. Austin State University. Prior to his employment at ASU, he was principal flutist of the 2nd Air Force Band in Bossier City, La., and the 13th Air Force Band in the Philippine Islands, which toured and performed throughout Southeast Asia.

His teachers include Byron Hester, former principal flutist of the Houston Symphony and Harold Bennett, former principal flutist of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City. Bonner has been a featured soloist with the ASU Wind Ensemble, the ASU Orchestra, the Delta Symphony, and the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra of Memphis.

Dr. Daniel Ross received his BME and MSE from ASU and his DA from the University of Mississippi. Ross is a well-known figure throughout the “double reed world” for his important research, design, and construction of reed gouging machines.

He performs regularly as soloist with the Forum Sinfonia of Krakow, Poland, both in the U.S., Poland, and throughout central Europe. He has performed and presented classes at numerous International Double Reed Society conventions and also teaches and presents classes at major music schools throughout the U.S.

Lauren Schack Clark is active as a pianist, both in solo and collaborative performances. She has performed with principal players of many orchestras including the Boston Symphony, and with faculty from the Eastman School of Music, Cincinnati College-Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory, New England Conservatory, and many others.

She is currently on a one-year appointment as assistant professor of piano at ASU. During a recent visit to the Cork School of Music in Ireland, she was involved in a recital, teaching, lectures to faculty, and school concerts in the area.

She holds degrees from Boston University, Northwestern, the Longy School of Music, and the Hartt School.

The program will consist of the Trio Sonata in C minor for Flute, Oboe, and bassoon continuo by Johann J. Quantz, Variations Serieuses in D minor for solo piano by Mendelssohn, Nocturne for Solo Flute by Dr. Tom O’Connor, A Suite of Five Miniatures Op. 97 for oboe and piano by Thomas Dunhill, and Trio for Flute, Oboe, and Piano by Madeleine Dring.
