15, 2002 Arkansas State University to host Arkansas Political Science Association meeting Arkansas State University will host the Arkansas Political Science Association annual meeting for the first time in 10 years Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 - 23. The meeting will include panel discussions and paper presentations by political scientists from across the state on topics such as public administration, public policy and American foreign policy post Sept. 11. The annual meeting rotates between other four-year universities in the state, according to annual meeting coordinator, Dr. Richard Wang, associate professor of political science at ASU. Registration will begin Friday afternoon in the Reng Center Ballroom, followed by dinner at the Holiday Inn. Panel meetings and presentations will be held on campus and at the Holiday Inn, located on Caraway Road. Eight panel discussions will be held during the first two sessions Friday afternoon. Topics include Arkansas politics, American politics, welfare reform, the politics of redistricting in Arkansas, environmental policy and two student panels. A reception will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, located off Caraway Road. Dinner will follow at 7. ASU alumnus Shane Broadway, speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives, will be the guest speaker at dinner. A breakfast meeting at 8 a.m. will begin Saturday’s activities at the Holiday Inn, followed by a second day of panel discussions. Topics for Saturday’s discussions include Arkansas’ public schools; public administration and policy; international relations and comparative politics, and a special round-table discussion about the "living and learning assessment." Journalist John Brummett, from the Arkansas News Bureau, will be the guest speaker at the closing lunch at noon Saturday in the Reng Center Ballroom. Ann Clemmers of UALR is the organization’s current president. Section chairs include Kenneth Rogers of Arkansas Tech University, international/comparative; Catherine Reese of ASU, public administration and policy; Harold Bass of Ouachita Baptist University, American politics; Art English of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas politics; and Janine Perry of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, student papers.
