Hungarian pianist Gyorgy Sandor will perform in the Lecture~Concert Series at Arkansas State University on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive.

Sandor will open his performance with Bartok’s "Dance Suite," a piece he premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1945 with Bartok in the audience. A student of Bartok’s at the Lizst Academy in Budapest, Sandor also premiered his "Third Piano Concerto."

While continuing to teach at Juilliard, Sandor maintains a very busy concert career. He will perform throughout Europe, Egypt and South Korea this year, as well as throughout the United States.

In addition to performing Bartok, he will also perform music by Beethoven’s "Sonata," Op.111 in C minor and Schumann’s "Fantasy," Op. 17.

His recordings on CD include the entire solo piano repertoire of Bartok, of Prokofieff, and of Kodaly , as well as numerous works by Bach, Chopin, Brahms, Schuman, Liszt, Rachmaninoff's 2nd Concerto and Bartok's Piano Concertos.

His published piano versions include Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," Shostakovich's "Russian Dance of the Golden Age," Bartok's "Songs and Dances" of the 44 Violin Duos and "Tempo di Ciaccona and Fuga" of the Solo Violin Sonata.

Sandor is also the author of the book "On Piano Playing."
