Lecture~Concert Series
to present Alon Goldstein

Pianist Alon Goldstein will perform in the Arkansas State University Lecture~Concert Series in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center, located at 201 Olympic Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13. His program will include works by Debussy, Janacek and Brahms.

Goldstein is in residence at the International Piano Foundation at Lake Como in Italy.

Born in Israel in 1970, he began piano studies at age seven. After studying with artists such as Victor Derevianko and Arie Vardi, he graduated from Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts and continued his studies at the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel-Aviv University.

He served in the Israeli Army as an "Outstanding Musician," and is a 10-time recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship. The recipient of other numerous awards, Goldstein won the Francois Shapira prize in 1991.

After performing several times with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, he won the Goralnic Award in 1992, which allows Israeli artists to study abroad. The pianist received a scholarship to study with Leon Fleisher for four years at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.

After completing his master’s degree there, Goldstein became a "performance fellow" at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

His recital and concert appearances have taken him to major cities throughout the U.S. and Europe, and includes the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago; the 1999 Klavier Festival in Germany; the Phillips Collection Series in Washington, D.C.; and the Aspen Marlboro, Ravinia and Tanglewood music festivals.

Goldstein also received the State of Israel Culture and Arts prize for the best solo performance of a work by an Israeli composer. He is currently working on a CD of contemporary Israeli piano music for the Israel Music Institute.
